Babies' skin is known to be silky smooth, but it's also extremely sensitive. Our skincare range helps your little one stay as smooth as a baby's bottom while protected from the elements. At Baby Bunting, we stock a wide selection of baby skincare, haircare and body care to help keep your little one's skin happy and healthy.

Gentle Skincare for Babies

Babies are born with delicate and sensitive skin that requires extra care and attention. Unlike our skin, baby’s skins can’t tolerate harsh active ingredients, nor do they need intense ingredients for skincare. When choosing baby skincare products, it is recommended to opt for formulas with mild ingredients that focus on cleansing, moisturising, or soothing your child’s skin.

Baby Skincare Routine

The key to a good baby skincare routine is to keep it simple. Since your child’s skin is still delicate, putting too many products on it might cause irritation. When building a routine for your child, search for mild and fragrance-free products that gently cleanse, moisturise, or soothe the skin.

Bath and Body Washes

Body washes help remove the excess oils and dirt from your baby during bath time. An SLS-free and soap-free body wash, such as the GAIA Natural Baby Bath and Body Wash, is recommended for infants over harsher and drying soaps.

Moisturisers

A large chunk of baby skincare focuses on keeping your child’s skin moisturised because their skin is fragile and sensitive. This is why moisturisers like the Mustela Hydra-Bébé Body Lotion are recommended for their skin and body care routine. These moisturisers can act to keep your child’s skin hydrated and may act to strengthen your child’s skin barrier.

Nappy Creams

Nappy creams help soothe your baby’s skin when nappy rashes occur. Since wearing nappies can irritate your baby, a good practice is to protect their skin with a thin layer of barrier cream like Sudocrem Healing Cream each time you change.

Skincare for Newborns

Skincare for newborns follows the same rule as baby skincare, which is to use gentle products on your child’s skin. However, newborns are a little more delicate as they are still in the first stages of child development, which is why extra care may be required.

Bathing

Bathing your baby with warm water for 5-10 minutes at a time can help keep their bodies clean. Avoid frequently bathing or over soaking your newborn as this may dry out their skin quickly.

Cord Care

Caring for your baby’s umbilical stump will be part of your routine until it falls off. Keep the area clean and dry and avoid putting lotions and moisturisers on it as this may increase the healing time.

Baby Skincare and Sun Protection

Sun protection for your kids is important since the sun’s UV rays can cause damage!

For babies less than six months, direct sunlight should be avoided. It is recommended that your child wears hats and other protective babywear when going outside. Additionally, having sun shades on your pram can also protect your baby against UV rays.

For older infants, having a broad spectrum sunscreen formulated for their sensitive skin, like Natio Kids Everyday Sensitive Sunscreen SPF 50+, is highly recommended. SPF 50+ is best for especially harsh days and direct sunlight.
