TOG Talk

On cooler nights, a warmer swaddle, sleepingbag or sleepsuit are your go-to options. These products have a Thermal Overall Grade (TOG) to help identify the right suit based on the room temperature your child is sleeping in. To reduce the risk of overheating, opt for a lower TOG rating for warmer rooms, and a higher TOG for cooler rooms.

Always check the correct size, TOG and underclothing guides per brand.

Frequently Asked Questions

For your baby's first winter, expect some changes in your baby’s routine as you’ll need to pay special attention to ensure they aren’t feeling too warm or cold. Some key differences that you may expect include:

  • Dressing your baby for winter
  • Taking care of your baby’s skin
  • More preparations for outdoor activities

Preparing your baby winter essentials can also make the first winter relatively easier as most items will address these concerns.

Your baby’s first cold may come during the winter months due to cooler weather, but that doesn’t mean you can’t prevent it. It’s best to keep healthy and to ensure that your baby stays warm. Additionally, for the family, it is advisable to get your flu shots and to sanitise your hands especially when interacting with the baby. In the event of a cold, having cold relief products such as a nasal aspirator is always handy.

Layers are your best friend! As a general rule of thumb, look at how many layers you are wearing and add another one to keep your baby warm. Opt for light, breathable, and easy-to-remove babywear which you can instantly snap on or off when your child is feeling too warm or too cold.

It really depends on your situation and your baby, but an overhaul isn’t always necessary for winter. However, some aspects such as skin care and dressing up may change because of the cold weather.

During the winter, it’s important to keep your baby’s skin moisturized, moisturized, and moisturized! The cold weather may dry up your little one’s sensitive skin so have baby-safe moisturizer and lotions  in your winter essentials.

Newborns don’t have the ability to self-regulate their temperatures well just yet, so it’s essential to keep a watchful eye on them. Make sure to constantly check for signs of overheating or hypothermia.

On the other hand, toddlers are a little more independent and can play and communicate better. For these older ones, it’s best to ensure that you have the necessary toddler winter essentials for activities, such as cosy and comfortable outerwear and cold relief items should they get sick.
